A pilot holding a Beginner Licence with 0 years of experience whist flying at Long Kee Wan at approximately 12-1400hrs on Sunday 12th of March 2017.

The conditions at the time were reported to be Gusting with a E wind blowing approximately 26-30kph. The temperature was 15-19deg C with Moderate Cloud and Hazy Visibility.

There were reported to be 2-5 pilots at the site.

Event Description:

Student under instruction crashed in strong and occasionally crossed conditions. After approximately 5 minutes the condition of the pilot was assessed and an ambulance called. The pilot was rescued at grid KK2939 7654 at ~15:30. Wx: 090/10 kts, Vis 7 Km, Mist/Haze. The pilot suffered a fractured left forearm and hip pain and was transported by GFS to Eastern Hospital.

The EC is disturbed to hear of this accident involving a student under instruction. It is disappointing that no report was received from pilots those alleged to be instructing as this is a clear violation of their duty of care. HKPA members are reminded that they are required to submit incident reports for all incidents or accidents they witness. To comply with the ops manual the SO must receive the report within 72 hours, but the earlier it is submitted the better. Members are also reminded that they may contact the SO directly at any time.
