Event Description:

GFS reported rescue. Pilot crashed on take off. Head injury. Initially declared as a hiker as canopy had been hidden but incident watched by onlookers.

Committee Response: (if any )

The EC and GFS are concerned about the mischaracterisation of the PG operations as hiking. This is of considerable concern as injuries sustained while hiking are likely to be very different from those caused by a PG accident. Specifically, a pilot may suffer significant internal trauma consistent with crashing a PG that is not addressed in a timely fashion.

Committee Action: (if any )

Pilots are reminded that they place their health and the health of other pilots in jeopardy by lying about and/or mischaracterising the nature of a paragliding accident.
