A pilot holding a Tandem Licence with 5-10 years of experience whist flying at Shek O at approximately 12-1400hrs on Sunday 22nd of January 2017.

The conditions at the time were reported to be Smooth with a E wind blowing approximately 16-20kph. The temperature was 15-19deg C with A Little Cloud and Slight Haze Visibility.

There were reported to be 2-5 pilots at the site.

Event Description:

Tandem pilot landed on Shek O main beach without any justifiable cause.

The EC is concerned by continued main beach landings.

Committee Action: (if any )

The EC reminded all pilots that landing on public bathing beaches is explicitly prohibited without good cause by the AIP ENR 5.5 and Hong Kong Regulations Chapter 132E Section 11(3) of Bathing Beaches Regulation. A letter outlining the sensitivity of the site and the above regulations was sent to the pilot concerned.
