A pilot holding a Unknown Licence with 10+ years of experience whist flying at Shek O at approximately 12-1400hrs on Saturday 5th of January 2013.

The conditions at the time were reported to be Stable with a NE wind blowing approximately 21-25kph. The temperature was 15-19deg C with Nil Cloud and Unlimited Visibility.

There were reported to be 6-10 pilots at the site.

Event Description:

due to reports of turbulences on back beach several pilots decided to land on main beach. in the final, wind conditions made it difficult to loose altitude. while the air was very smooth high up, the last 50 m proved to be turbulent for several pilots.

the pilot came a little to high and in an effort to loose altitude without landing in the part of the beach where there were people he kept the breaks on during the final. at about 10/12m he eventually suffered a stall. the canopy dived and he impacted the ground as the canopy was exiting the dive. he hit the ground on the bottom of the harness (gin Verso).

immedialty other pilots came to help. the pilot was conscient but suffered from sharp back pain and requested a medical evacuation. he was able to get out of his harness and stayd on his back on the beach until the ambulance came to pick him up.

The safety officer contacted friends of the pilot to ascertain what had happened and ask after the welfare of the pilot. The pilot had been hospitalised for his injuries.

cautioned pilots as to safety at shek o. also reminded pilots of the requirement to land at the official landing zone
