A pilot holding a Club Pilot (PG3) Licence with 2-3 years of experience whist flying at Cloudy Hill at approximately 12-1400hrs on Thursday 27th of July 2017.

The conditions at the time were reported to be Smooth with a E wind blowing approximately 16-20kph. The temperature was 30-34deg C with Some Cloud and Unlimited Visibility.

There were reported to be 2-5 pilots at the site.

Factors in this Incident:

Event Description:

After takeoff from Cloudy hill takeoff, I had climbed to 800m altitude, wind was easterly approximately 10 - 12 km/h. I had started drifting towards the west with a few other pilots above me. As they headed off into gliding towards the next range of hills towards the south west, I followed but was unaware of the proximity onto Shek Kong airport or helicopter operations until almost arriving to the mountain to the west. Upon realizing how close I was to shek kong airport, it was already too late to glider back towards cloudy hill. I then made the decision to continue towards the west mountain and hope to gain altitude to return but the east wind had become stronger and a return was no longer possible. A landing was made at an empty soccer field nearby Lam Tsuen. Nil significant events after landing. Lessons learnt, Cloudy hill in East wind is launchable but takes incredible skill to proceed east.
