A pilot holding a Club Pilot (PG3) Licence with 3-5 years of experience whist flying at Shek O at approximately 15-1700hrs on Friday 14th of March 2014.

The conditions at the time were reported to be Gusting with a NE wind blowing approximately 21-25kph. The temperature was 15-19deg C with Some Cloud and Slight Haze Visibility.

There were reported to be 1 pilots at the site.

Event Description:

Translation of the event from the Pilot

Shek O accident report.

At Shek O, then northeasterly about 23 ~ 28km, about 2:30 pm pilot climbed to about 450m, then suddenly encountered a gust of strong wind from the hills, found that into the wind could only fly with 3km groundspeed, and suddenly encountered sink greater than 2 ~ 3/ms, Pilot flew to the west , to avoid rotor and into the sea,

Pilot sighted the PLA army barrack area and landed there safely. Pilot is very sorry to the HKPA for the mistake.

The pilot involved was arrested by the HK police for trespass.

The HKPA thanks the pilot involved for the report.

We note that the pilot said he climbed to "around 450m" - the max height for Shek O is 425m, please bear the max altitude in mind at all times when flying in any Hong Kong site. Helicopters regularly fly above our Shek O zone.

This is the first arrest of a pilot that i know of in Hong Kong. Please keep this in mind for next time you consider flying outside the zones?!
