Event Description:

Pilot was landing at shek o on first flight there. overshot the landing area ( whole main shek o beach ) and flew into the trees at the eastern end of the beach. to retrieve the glider, the pilot involved had to pay $$$$ ( thousands ) to the locals and had to have some lines on his glider cut !

apparently the pilot was unhurt - apart from his pride !

Committee Response: (if any )

the pilot obviously had an issue with landing in a small area if he used up all the main beach to land? better supervision of the pilot would have helped in this event.

becoming a hazard at shek o is not something the hkpa needs to do nor be known for. please dont land at the main beach unless there are no other options. land at the authorised landing zone.

Committee Action: (if any )

NIL Action Yet
