Details:

A pilot holding a Beginner Licence with 0 years of experience whist flying at Ma On Shan at approximately 15-1700hrs on Wednesday 15th of February 2017.

The conditions at the time were reported to be Smooth with a E wind blowing approximately 10-15kph. The temperature was 15-19deg C with Nil Cloud and Unlimited Visibility.

There were reported to be 6-10 pilots at the site.

Event Description:

A student under instruction collided with a tree in the landing zone suffering a frontal collapse and significant ground impact. The pilot suffered arm fractures. Police and ambulance attended.

The EC is concerned that instructors are continuing to use Ma On Shan for ab initio training without an instructor present in the LZ.

This incident has been referred to the Safety, Training and Education Committee.
